Eichstätt Lithography Residency | Jill Bennett

Jill Bennett, Edinburgh Printmakers Studio

The Society of Scottish Artists is delighted to announce that artist Jill Bennett has been selected for the Eichstätt Lithography Residency 2020.

This bi-annual Lithography Residency Prize includes a period of time working in the studio and a solo exhibition with an opening reception. It is offered by SSA working in partnership with Li Portenlänger, Director of Lithographie-Werkstatt Eichstätt in Bavaria, Germany.

Olivia Turner, President of the SSA said:
“We are thrilled to be able to offer Jill Bennett this brilliant international opportunity. This year we received a high level of strong applications and the selection committee felt that with Jill’s dedication to lithograph, along with her 20 years of experience made her the perfect choice. Over this two-week residency we think Jill’s practice will really benefit from having dedicated time to produce a new body of work based on the surrounding landscape. We would like to once again thank Li Portenlänger for making this opportunity possible, particular in the current circumstances. Each year the opportunity attracts applications from printmakers from across the world. We would like to encourage all applicants to reapply next year and we will look forward to working with them all in the future.

A graduate of Edinburgh College of Art in Drawing and Painting Jill combined a career as an artist, developing skills in printmaking and in oil and watercolour painting, with teaching art in primary schools for children with special educational needs. A member of Edinburgh Printmakers since 1995 Jill has worked mainly in stone lithography, etching and screen printing, and is a Professional Member of both the Society of Scottish Artists and Visual Arts Scotland, and a member of Council in both Societies in recent years.

On receiving the award, Jill said:
“I am thrilled to be awarded this Stone Lithography Residency in Eichstatt and I am very much looking forward to travelling to Bavaria and to meeting Li Portenlanger, the Director of Lithographie-Werkstatt Eichstatt. This is an exciting opportunity for me to work in Li’s prestigious studio, to be able to create some new lithographs in this environment and to experience the renowned cultural and historical features of the beautiful town of Eichstätt and the surrounding area.
