Annual Exhibition Announcement
Scotland’s three leading art societies are set to present the biggest show of contemporary art in Scotland.
Taking over the prestigious RSA Academy Buildings on Edinburgh’s Princes Street for five weeks, the Society of Scottish Artists, Visual Arts Scotland and The Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour are set to present the most dynamic and diverse show in Scottish contemporary art.
While all three societies have much in common, our mission this year will be to celebrate further our unique and divergent qualities.
The exhibitions, which run from February to March 2018, will see the RSW occupy the lower floor of the building while the SSA and VAS embark on an exciting collaboration across the magnificent upper galleries. By combining our expertise we aim to present one show for 2018, which demonstrates fully the diversity of contemporary and applied art created today.
For artists, the benefits of this new partnership are limitless. Your work will be shown in Scotland’s most esteemed gallery setting, with many prizes and awards to be won and, of course, there’s always the chance your piece will be snapped up by our many visiting art buyers and collectors.
For those wishing to submit there will be one joint SSA/VAS Open Call and a combined selection process, where representatives from each organisation will select works for inclusion in the show. We anticipate submissions will open mid-September 2017 with further details to follow.
As a member of the SSA we’d love you to become involved in the creation of a lively programme of associated events and activities so please keep an eye open for ways to participate and contribute.
Central to the show, as always, will be work selected through the Open Call, with each society presenting a curated selection of exceptional and unexpected art – watch this space!
