I started printmaking in 2005 as an etcher; since then, I have gradually moved over to aquatint, mezzotint, and wood engraving; these days, I am mainly a woodengraver. For me, there is a kind of sparkle in the effects you can achieve with the pure blacks and whites of an engraving, and in a medium which by nature favours clarity and definition, it is a challenge to try to achieve atmosphere and blur. Every new engraving is an experimental with a new approach to line. In terms of theme, on the surface my prints are representational. The content is chiefly urban and/or figurative, and they aim to catch the texture of the everyday world – places, times, effects of light and weather, moments. They also form a kaleidoscopic continuity, if you see them in groups. On the other hand, as an ex-abstract-painter, I am also concerned with the abstract geometries which remain visible within, or arise from, the world of appearances. The influences on my work are constantly changing, but I would have to include Vermeer, Bonnard, Hammershøi, Gerhard Richter, and the printmakers Willem den Ouden, Art Veldhoen, Charles Donker, Mikael Kihlman, Mikael Wahrby and many more!
