Statement

Statement

Harry Boddice is an autodidact artist, and he is building a body of work that represents the joys and fears of the changing world.

“My response to the changes in the world that have been alarming me for some years is to try to document things as I find them. I want to paint to leave a record of the environments I find myself in, not necessarily in a directly literal way but in a way that expresses the sweetness, the sadness, the curiosity and the joy of the human-environmental interaction.

I don’t believe there is a clear separation between ‘human’ and ‘environment’, so as the changes we make to the planetary ecosystem continue, so these changes continue to affect the lives of human beings. At the intersection of the built environment is the managed environment, and increasingly rarely, the natural environment, but all of these are changing, and I want to paint the things I find – the birds that roost in our cities, the plants that grow in the cracks of our concrete, and the trees that border our farmland – in such a way as to evoke the feelings they present. “
