Statement
| Statement | Sound can possess a body, fill it, and when it is silent, has changed it. As an active blacksmith and musician, I am interested in traditional metal craft as well as the audial potential in different metals and how to bring out the materials voice. Working by hand gives me a close connection to my material which is an important part of my process. I experience sonic reverberations every day when I work with hot metal on the anvil. They resonate within me and I feel the material through the sound which enters my body. With over fifteen years of experience as a blacksmith, I employ very old, traditional techniques into work which I feel carries part of that ancient crafts’ history. Using tools and techniques which have hardly changed in hundreds of years, I bring a noble craft into the modern age. I create contemporary objects in a beautiful blend of crafts. |
