Statement

Statement

In painting, the body; its multitude of functions and its relationship with the material properties of paint, are concerns in my work. I use it as a framework to explore the subjects of physicality, intimacy, and sensation. I create intricately patterned surfaces, fusing a myriad of cultural references, from topographic and diagrammatic engravings, arabesques, micrographic reproductions and cellular structures, in an attempt to explore and reflect the correlation that exists between them. In recent paintings, scenes which invoke the natural world also reveal the anatomy of patterns which persist and endure throughout life

WORKING PRACTICE
As a visual artist I balance a self-directed studio practice with collaboration.
I am experienced in the areas of inter-disciplinary work, learning and engagement, and have undertaken many socially engaged commissions, artistic residencies, and research-driven projects. This has allowed me to develop and employ a wide range of skills within art education, the therapeutic arts, health and well-being.

I have developed focused, participant-led projects, for a variety of galleries and arts production companies, and have successfully delivered well received public artworks and commission-based works within public spaces, as well as within galleries and non-traditional art spaces.

Collaboration is key to my practice, with engagement at the heart of my process, resulting in diverse and unique outcomes, which directly reflect the concerns, aspirations and inspirations of all project participants. I have a strong track record of developing thoughtful, inspiring co-creative artworks and workshops which engage participants through fresh approaches.
